Una nube es en el cielo como un trozo de algodón que absorbe pequeños cristales de nieve o gotas de agua. Mirar las nubes es un espectáculo que indica el carácter del tiempo: anuncian un día soleado o la llegada de una tormenta. Pero mirar las nubes de noche es una oportunidad que pocos tienen. Las llamadas noctilucentes brillan desde lo más alto, en el cielo más oscuro de las regiones polares.
El escultor japonés Kohei Nawa hizo descender a las noctilucentes para que otros caminaran sobre ellas y se cegaran con el brillo que les da su nombre. Como parte de la Trienal de Aichi , en Japón, Nawa presentó una instalación de nubes elaboradas con espuma. Con un escenario en color negro, el artista recreó con gran detalle cada uno de los meteoros acuosos que integran su propuesta, para hacer visibles a los ojos de los asistentes las nubes polares.
Aunque la instalación de Kohei Nawa no se relaciona con esta clase de nubes, su propuesta bien puede apegarse a éstas, pues las noctilucentes brillan por las noches agrupadas en capas luminiscentes cuyos cristales de hielo que las conforman son visibles sólo en algunas zonas del mundo.

Interview Inside Kohei Nawa&#;s Bubble

He plays with words and our perceptions in equal measure. Kohei Nawa, born in Osaka and now a professor at Kyoto University of the Arts, makes his sculptures emerge through the surface of objects sourced online, which he then covers in a multitude of clear bubbles. PixCell, a combination of pixels and cells, transposes the image found online into reality. Due to the magnifying effect of his glass spheres, the representation of his object becomes distorted. The digital age, consumer, and information society… This examination of a changing world and its consequences are scrutinised through these spheres, through which Kohei Nawa questions the future of humankind. Pen spoke to the artist.
