History is messy.
In Oklahoma, we&#;re reminded of this every April when a school decides to teach kids about the state&#;s history by re-enacting the land run of , and one or more parents get upset because the land in question was more or less stolen, likely as not from the ancestors of people still living here.
For those who don&#;t know the story, almost all of what is today Oklahoma was designated Indian Territory in the s and s. Tribes were moved here lock, stock and barrel, mainly from the southeastern United States, mainly to solve land disputes. The disputes were generally as follows: The Indians had land and whites wanted it.
Originally, all of present-day Oklahoma except the Panhandle and the southwest corner were promised in perpetuity to the Cherokee, Creek, Seminole, Choctaw and Chickasaw Indians. But the relocation went so well, at least from the United States&#; point of view, that it soon began moving other native peoples into the territory. This was facilitated by, of all things, the American Civil War.

Liberty Church Yukon
Our story as a church family began on November 15, , as Lakewood Baptist Church located on the Eastside of Lake Overholser, OKC. Our Pastor was Dan Fisher. The small church had soon outgrown this location, so in April we started renting the Dale Robertson Center, Yukon on Sundays. We held two services at AM and AM.
May 15, , in a Special Business Meeting, our church family voted to take a new name of Liberty Church, Yukon. That name was chosen as our church wanted to honor scripture in 2nd Corinthians … “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” … 2nd Corinthians
December 30, , Pastor Dan Fisher was called to another church in Edmond, Oklahoma. Four men were elected as the first Liberty Church, Yukon Leadership Team and they established an interim Pastor schedule until a full time Pastor was found.
During this interim period, Liberty Church, Yukon was able to buy property located at E Main Street, Yukon, OK and held first services on September 22,

Dan grew up in western Arkansas and felt God’s call to the ministry very early. He preached his first sermon at 16 and by the time he was 23, he was the full-time pastor of Immanuel Baptist, Poteau, OK. Forty-three years after his first sermon, Dan continues in the ministry. He and his wife, Pam, have been married since and have two children and six grandchildren.
Dan has always believed Christians cannot compartmentalize their lives into the “secular” and the “sacred,” but are rather to be “salt and light” in every area of society – including government. And since Americans live in a representative republic, Dan believes it is essential that “the people,” especially Christians, do their duties as citizens.
