Whether as footballer, hurler, cricketer, boxer or swimmer, Cathal excelled; but all these fields were deserted by him for the field of Gaelic culture. He devoted himself heart and soul to the Gaelic League. In he fought in the South Dublin Union and was wounded severely. He was borne away seemingly dead. Prominently identified with the Anti-Conscription fight in When the Republican Dail met in , Cathal Brugha was elected President of the Republic, a position which he resigned in favour of Eamon de Valera, when the latter was released from jail. Through the Black-and-Tan terror he acted as Minister for Defence, and succeeded in avoiding the clutches of England's hunters. He fought in the Hammam Hotel, O'Connell Street, in , and was in charge of the rearguarduntil the hotel was enveloped in flames. During the terrific bombardment Cathal Brugha sent his men away and dauntless and defiant, refusing to surrender, he himself rushed forth to certain death.
Dearly loved and valiant, this was the first sickening tragedy of the second phase of the war for Independence.

The Early Years
Martin Luther was born on November 10, in Eisleben, Germany to Margaret and Hans Luder (the original pronunciation).
Hans worked in the mining industry, even owning a few copper mines, but he wanted something better for his son. Martin was sent off to boarding school and then to the University of Erfurt.
He was an excellent student. He soon earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree and seemed to be well on his way to success as a law student. But about a month into his legal studies, on the 2nd of June in , Luther was on his way back to school from his parent’s home when he was caught in a violent thunderstorm. The storm grew more intense and Luther became afraid for his life.

Cathal Brugha (Irish pronunciation: born Charles William St John Burgess) (18 July – 7 July ) was an Irish revolutionary and politician, active in the Easter Rising, Irish War of Independence, and the Irish Civil War and was the first Ceann Comhairle (chairman) of Dáil Éireann.
Brugha was born in Dublin of mixed Irish Catholic and Irish Protestant parentage. His father, Thomas, was a cabinet maker and antique dealer who had been disinherited by his family for marrying a Catholic. He was the tenth of fourteen children and was educated at the Jesuit Belvedere College, but was forced to leave at the age of sixteen due to the failure of his father&#;s business. He went on to set up a church candle manufacturing firm with two brothers, Anthony and Vincent Lalor, and took on the role of travelling salesman.
Brugha organised an amalgamation of the Irish Volunteers and the Irish Citizen Army into the Irish Republican Army (IRA). He proposed a Republican constitution at the Sinn Féin convention which was unanimously accepted.
