(Also called D'AGNOLO after his father Angelo)

Italian architect and painter, b. about at Monte Asdrualdo (hence, sometimes ASDRUALDINO); d. in Rome, 11 March, Nothing is known of his early youth. His early artistic development also, about which Vasari has made so many erroneous statements, is mostly a matter of conjecture. Today, however, it seems fairly certain that Laurana, the architect of the ducal palace at Urbino, showed him the way to the impressive style of the High Renaissance. Bramante's artistic activity is divided into two periods of which the first was spent in Milan and the other in Rome. His work in Milan is characterized by a pronounced picturesque, decorative style. In Rome, on the other hand, we find a style which is more proper to the High Renaissance, exemplified in works that are, as far as possible, free from all external decoration, impressive by reason of their proportions, and recalling the antique by their grandeur and power. Sister Deirdre’s ‘old-fashioned’ religious witness

By Phil Lawler ( bio - articles - email ) | Aug 28,

Sister Deirdre Byrne is a formidable woman, and her speech to the Republican convention has—obviously and understandably—energized President Trump’s Catholic supporters. What I found most impressive, however, was not her endorsement of the President’s re-election bid, but her bold proclamation:

…I am not just pro-life, I am pro-eternal life. I want all of us to end up in heaven together someday.

Coincidentally, on the morning after Sister Deirdre’s speech, a post on The Catholic Thing featured a photo of another woman religious. I’ll let the photo caption speak for itself:

Mother Gennara, M.S.C, who taught at St. Donato’s for thirty years, is pictured with her ninety-two first-graders. The school’s dedication in had been attended by Mother Cabrini, founder of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart and the first U.S. citizen to be canonized ().

Born in Nicomedia, which is part of modern-day Turkey, he received a comprehensive education in Rome, Italy. During the oppressive reign of Emperor Diocletian, when Christians faced severe persecution, Donatus sought refuge in the city of Arezzo, Italy. Donatus's piety and erudition caught the attention of the local Christian community, leading to his election as the second bishop of Arezzo in the year As bishop, Donatus dedicated himself to spreading the teachings of Christ, caring for his flock, and defending the faith against heresy. One of the challenges Donatus faced was dealing with the prevalence of paganism in the region. The popular tradition in Arezzo involved an ancient dragon slumbering beneath the city, which was believed to poison the water supply. Donatus, driven by his faith and determination, confronted this superstition head-on. According to legend, he successfully freed the poisoned well from the dragon, winning the admiration and gratitude of the people. Throughout his episcopate, Saint Donatus displayed stead
