As a poor child growing up in Panama, the only lavish wealth Preston Bailey experienced was the lush display of nature. Gazing at the riot of color provided by the tropical vegetation of his homeland, Bailey developed the love of flowers and dramatic sense of design that he would put to use many years later in his career as an event planner. Though Bailey had never imagined he would start a business producing weddings and parties, his sense of style and flair for spectacle proved perfectly suited to creating memorable social events. In conjunction with the New York Film Academy (NYFA), 10 ARTS, and the Guy Preston Bailey Foundation, we honor and pay tribute to the NYFA alum, Guy Preston Bailey by creating the Preston Bailey “Rising Star” Memorial Scholarship. Sadly, Preston’s life was cut short in a horrific car accident shortly after he graduated from NYFA. With this memorial scholarship, we hope to honor Preston by helping young artists achieve their dream by studying at the New York Film Academy.
Guy Preston Bailey (fondly known to most as ‘Preston’) was raised in North Carolina and attended Grace Academy and Central Piedmont Community College prior to moving to Los Angeles. In , Preston attended the Acting for Film program at the New York Film Academy’s campus in the heart of Hollywood. Preston’s journey began when he met David Vando, a NYFA instructor, in Chicago at a talent convention for up-and-coming actors. Professor Vando quickly recognized Preston’s inherent acting abilities and worked on securing a talent-based award for his study at NYFA so that Preston could follow his dreams to become an actor.
