Sir Michael Caine is in mourning after the death of his younger brother who starred alongside him in hit films such as The Italian Job.

Stanley Micklewhite, who played Coco in the hit film, was 77 when he passed away in January.

The actor and writer also joined his older sibling on screen in Billion Dollar Brain in and Play Dirty in

Despite being devastated by his brother's death, Sir Michael did not attend Stanley's funeral as he was so concerned that it would turn into a circus.

Mr Micklewhite’s widow Marie told the Daily Mirror: 'We’ve kept it very quiet because we didn’t want a big fuss about it.

'Michael couldn’t even come to the funeral because we knew there would be a media circus

Michael Caine as Harry Palmer.
It was assuredly no easy task to follow in the footsteps of two of the best spy thrillers of the s: The Ipcress Fileand Funeral in Berlin. So, one must cut a little slack for Billion Dollar Brain(), Michael Caine&#;s third outing as thief-turned-spy Harry Palmer.

Since we last saw Palmer, he has become a low-rent private eye working out of a dimly-lit office filled with half-empty food containers. He turns down a offer to spy again for his former boss, Colonel Ross (Guy Doleman), and accepts a job from a computerized voice on the phone. His assignment is to deliver a mysterious package to Helsinki. Palmer learns that his cargo consists of six eggs containing a deadly virus. The recipient is an old Palmer associate named Leo (Karl Malden), who works for a Texas billionaire intent on ending the spread of Communism.

Karl Malden as Leo.
It's a promising opening, but the plot soon goes off the rails with a detour to Latvia, a trip to Texas to see a giant computer, and a brief climatic confrontation on the frozen Baltic Sea. The film's biggest mistake, though, is in relegating Palmer to a pawn in these shenanigans. Part
Brief summary at Goodreads:
The fourth of Deighton's novels to be narrated by the unnamed employee of WOOC(P) is the thrilling story of an anti-communist espionage network owned by a Texan billionaire, General Midwinter, run from a vast computer complex known as the Brain. After having been recruited by Harvey Newbegin, the narrator travels from the bone-freezing winter of Helsinki, Riga and Leningrad, to the stifling heat of Texas, and soon finds himself tangling with enemies on both sides of the Iron Curtain.
I have read four books in the nameless spy series by Len Deighton. Ipcress Filewas the first Len Deighton book I read and I was totally confused the whole time I was reading it. I liked Horse Under Watermuch better; I was more used to the style of writing and the character, and the plot seemed much more straightforward to me. Funeral in Berlinwas very good; I liked the setting especially, and the plot and new characters were entertaining.

Billion-Dollar Brainseemed quite different from the others. More James Bondish, more fantastical and fun. I was still in a state of confusion for a good bit of the time, plot-wise, but enjoyed the book regardless.

After his time in the Army, Michael went to work at Westminster Repertory in Horsham, Sussex, followed by time at Lowestoft Repertory, where he met his soon-to-be wife Patricia Haines.

Once they were married, Michael and Patricia decided to go to London to pursue their acting careers. Unfortunately this proved hard and Michael had to take a lot of soul destroying jobs.

On top of this, financial circumstances were dire and Patricia had became pregnant, later to give birth to Michael’s first daughter, Dominique. Although this was a happy event for the Caine family, Michael found it hard to cope with lack of job opportunities and finance, and after two and a half years of marriage, Patricia took Dominique back to her parents’ home. This signalled the end of the marriage, which lasted from

Suffering with a huge amount of guilt, out of work and penniless, Michael returned home to his family. His father was bedridden with rheumatism and unable to work, so Michael was forced to take a job in a steel yard. Unfortunately Michael’s father died and shortly after Michael lost his job in the steel yard.

His mother advised him to get away and sort himself out
