A businessman and his wife are under investigation for over potential offences related to one of Singapore’s largest corporate fraud scandals.
Ng Teck Lee, 58, former CEO of Citiraya Industries, and his wife Thor Chwee Hwa, 55, were arrested in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, on 3 December, after nearly 20 years on the run.
The Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) is leading the probe into the alleged $72 million embezzlement scheme involving electronic scrap misappropriation and bribery, according to The Straits Times.
Ng faces multiple charges, including criminal breach of trust (CBT) for allegedly misappropriating over 6,kg of electronic scrap.
Prosecutors claim Ng ordered employees to repackage, rather than crush the scrap for precious metals.

Ho Ching to step down on Oct 1 as Temasek Holdings CEO and executive director
SINGAPORE — Over a decade after a highly publicised failed leadership transition, Temasek Holdings announced on Tuesday (Feb 9) that its chief executive officer Ho Ching will retire and be replaced by Mr Dilhan Pillay Sandrasegara with effect from Oct 1.
Madam Ho, 67, who is also the state investment firm’s executive director, will step down from its board on the same date.
Mr Pillay, 57, will succeed her as executive director and CEO of Temasek Holdings. He will concurrently hold his current appointment as CEO of Temasek International.
In a media statement, Temasek’s chairman Lim Boon Heng said that leadership succession is a strategic responsibility of the board and it had put in place an annual review since the early s.
“Ho Ching has been very much part of this process. Indeed, she has been very active, working over the years to identify various potential successors both inside and outside of Temasek," he said.
"She has also played a key role in nurturing a strong leadership bench in Temasek, several of whom have gone on to CEO appointments beyond Temasek.”

Ms Ho, 68, will be appointed to Temasek Trust's board of directors with effect from Friday (Oct 1), the same day she is retiring from the Singapore investment company.
From April 1, she succeeds Mr S. Dhanabalan, who will remain on the board and be designated chairman emeritus.
In a separate statement on Thursday, Temasek also announced two new appointments to its board of directors.
