Charles de Gaulle was born on November 22, in Lille, France. He was raised in a military family. Henri, his father, had been an officer in the Franco Prussian War. Charles&#; mother, Jeanne, also came from a military family. Charles had a sister and three brothers.

De Gaulle attended College Stanislas in Paris and then served in the infantry. He attended the French military school, St. Cyr, and graduated with honors in This made him well positioned to serve in World War I.
