Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, He was the second child born to Thomas Lincoln and Nancy Hanks Lincoln. His mother died of a then-incurable disease when he was just 9 years old. His parents were illiterate but always encouraged lincoln to read and write. He was born into a small family in Kentucky. His morals and principles stopped him from favouring slavery rather he stood against the institution altogether and led the union of the northern states in the civil war against the Confederates.

Abraham Lincoln was born in LaRue County, Ky., on Sinking Springs Farm. His parents, Thomas and Nancy Hanks Lincoln, had moved into the one-room log cabin just two months before Abraham's birth.
